Optimed SW Commences
May 13, 2004 (QHR – TSX Venture Exchange) Mr. Al Hildebrandt, President and CEO of the Company, is pleased to announce that its wholly owned subsidiary, Optimed Software Corporation (“Optimed”), has established its operations with eight employees at the corporate headquarters of the Company at Suite 210 – 1632 Dickson Avenue, Kelowna, BC, V1Y 7T2.
Optimed will focus on the marketing and delivery of the Accuro™ software for which it acquired the exclusive worldwide marketing and licensing rights in March 2004 from Optimedirect Corporation as previously announced. Accuro is a powerful new suite of medical software modules specifically designed to improve the quality of the operational work environment of Physicians, Medical Specialists and Surgeons while delivering administrative productivity gains and cost savings through computer automation. The products deliver uniquely configured functional tools for billings and general administrative functions, patient scheduling, electronic medical records (“EMR”), clinical research data management, and private operating room administration.
The market opportunity for Accuro™ covers nearly 60,000 prospective Physician clients in Canada. Approximately 50% of these are Medical Specialists who are the initial focus of the marketing and development plan. The software is in its initial phase of commercial implementation and approximately 100 healthcare physicians have adopted Accuro™ software for their practices in Western Canada.
Accuro™ is designed for the emerging EMR marketplace on a national basis. The Government of Canada is investing $1.2 billion in an enterprise called Canada Health Infoway (“Infoway”) to modernize the healthcare system to improve access for Canadians. Infoway is funding various national and provincial initiatives to develop an Interoperable Pan-Canadian Electronic Health Records(“EHR”)system. Several provinces ,including Alberta, are standardizing the collection of electronic health data through EMR products in physicians’ offices and healthcare organizations to support regional, provincial and national EHR initiatives.
Canadian competitors typically are smaller, private organizations servicing regional markets. With their product origins in the late1980s, competitive products tend to be based on out-dated DOS billing systems. Conversion of these existing competitive products to EMR standards will be inefficient and lacks the advantages of newly developed systems such as Accuro™ that offer up-to-date technologies.
